Is Match a Movie free?
Yes. There are no costs, no download and no registration. It runs in any browser, on any device.
Do I need an account?
No. You enter a nickname of your choosing and pick an avatar. There is no email address, no password and no sign-up.
Which streaming services are supported?
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. You can select any combination, and only films included in those subscriptions are shown.
Which countries does it work in?
Twelve regions: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States. The region matters because streaming catalogues differ by country.
How does a match happen?
A match is the first film that every person in the round has swiped right on. It requires everyone, not a majority — so the result is a film nobody objected to rather than one that half the group tolerates.
How many people can join a round?
There is no fixed limit, and the method holds up better than discussion does as the group grows, because everyone judges at the same time rather than in turn. Two people is the minimum: swiping alone never produces a match.
Will it show films I would have to pay extra for?
No. Only titles included in the subscriptions you selected count as available. Rentals and purchases are excluded, because a paid title is not something a group can just start watching.
Where does the film data come from?
The Movie Database (TMDB), including the streaming availability information. Match a Movie is not affiliated with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Disney+.
Can I use it with someone in another country?
Yes, but pick one region for the round. Because catalogues differ by country, a film available to one of you may not be available to the other — choosing the region everyone can actually watch in avoids that.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in the browser. You can add it to your home screen if you want it to behave like an app, but that is optional.
What happens to my data?
There is no advertising, no analytics tooling and no cross-site tracking. Two strictly necessary cookies let you return to a round. Rounds are deleted after a period of inactivity. When a group agrees on a film, one anonymous row is stored describing the shape of that decision — no nickname, no device identifier, no round identifier — so aggregate statistics can be published.
Can I leave a round and come back?
Yes. Your place is kept, so closing the tab or losing connection does not lose your progress or your votes.
